Some home improvements will not return dollar for dollar value when you sell your home. Decorating can be subjective. What you like, someone else might not like. However, some improvements are sure winners' others are not:

  • Paint will return 100% (use neutral colors).

  • Swimming pools will return 0-50%.

Expensive built-in cabinets, custom lighting, hardware, drapes, security systems, etc., will make your home show better than the competition. However, you cannot expect to recover your entire investment in these improvements. Hopefully, you have enjoyed the benefits of the improvements while living in your home.
